Green Practices

• The college has Solar Panels installed at its rooftop. The Solar Panels provide an alternate source of energy (3 KVA) for College office, IQAC Room and Principal’s chamber.
• The college has installed LED lights which are being extensively used in administrative and academic building, students’ and teachers’ hostels and roads within the campus. The air conditioning machines are all BEE star rated. These electrical apparatuses are installed and maintained by PWD Electrical division.
• Energy usage audit for the college is conducted on a regular basis by competent authority in order to reduce wastage and to adopt more efficient energy usages.

• Rainwater harvesting: The college has in place a rainwater harvesting system which is maintained by PWD, Social sector. Usage: The stored water is used for watering the indoor plants

• Maintenance of three water bodies: The college is maintaining three water bodies inside the college campus with the help of casual labour. Usage: The water bodies are used for watering the plants in campus and pisciculture

• The College has adopted a Waste management policy in order to have a proper guideline and plan of action regarding collection and disposal of various kinds of waste produced within the campus including the hostels.
• Segregation of waste: Several types of dustbins have been installed for collection of different types of waste at designated places within the college campus.
• Daily waste is collected from the college campus by Haldia Municipal Corporation.
• E-Waste management: The college has a service agreement with “Hulladek Recycling Private Limited” for E-Waste Management since 04.06.2022. The company pick up, transport and recycle/ dispose all the E-Waste of the campus following the Government norms.
• Chemical and hazardous waste management is done by the Dept. of Chemistry using Chemical waste management pit.
• There are two bio-compost pits in the college. These are maintained in collaboration with Amuktika, an NGO.

• The college has adopted a Green Campus Policy in order to reduce usage of plastic and to make the campus a plastic free zone.
• Several kitchen gardens are being maintained by the hostel boarders and the support staff of the college.
• Green campus initiatives such as Tree plantation and Campus Cleaning have been initiated by NSS and NCC volunteers throughout the years.
• An Air Quality Monitoring E-Device has been installed at Haldia Government College to monitor the air quality of this area maintained by West Bengal Pollution Control Board. The data of AQI are available continuously at the website: https://aqmsdata.wbpcb.gov.in/

Green, Environmental and Energy Audit Initiative:

The Green & Environmental Audit initiative is a commendable step by the IQAC of the college toward creating a sustainable and eco-friendly 19.44-acre campus and neighboring environment.

Green and Environmental Audit involves the systematic identification, quantification, recording, reporting, and analysis of environmental components within and outside the college campus. Its purpose is to assess environmental practices and their impact on the eco-friendly ambience. By conducting a green audit, our college aims to identify and mitigate any adverse effects, ensuring a sustainable, healthier living environment.

The Energy Audit initiative is a proactive step by the IQAC toward efficient resource management and environmental sustainability. The energy audit of the institution involves a systematic assessment of energy consumption, utilization, and efficiency within campus. Its primary goal is to identify areas where energy can be conserved without compromising output quality.

The latest Green, Environmental and Energy Audit of the campus was done by Greenvio Solutions (an environmental and architectural design consultancy firm) on 13th March, 2023.
