Women’s Cell

The recent expansion in higher education has made colleges more demographically varied than ever before. Women constitute 48 per cent of all students in higher education in India today. As institutions of higher education engaged in teaching and learning, colleges are well placed to sensitize the community against all forms of discrimination and harassment, especially sexual harassment on campuses. The Women’s cell at Haldia Government College was established with the aim of empowering women to recognize their true potential.

Vision

Its goal is the overall development of women in all spheres of their life. It also helps in creating awareness about important issues related to women and provides a forum for discussion and deliberation on a range of social issues.

Objectives

  • Sensitize students on gender issues
  • Educate students about preventive measures against gender bias and sexual harassment of students.
  • To impart knowledge on legal rights of women
  • To conduct guest lectures by eminent people from different fields
  • To sensitise the women students of college about nutrition, health, hygiene.
  • To impart knowledge on legal rights of women.

Activities

  • Conducting regular meetings with the members of the Cell
  • Webinars and seminars on women related issues
  • Celebration of International Women’s Day
  • Celebrating women’s achievement
