Electoral Literacy Cell (ELC):
The Electoral Literacy Cell (ELC) plays an essential role at Haldia Government College, fostering awareness and education about the electoral process among stakeholders, especially students. The Ministry of Education, the Government of India, and the Election Commission of India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formally integrate voter education and electoral literacy into schools and higher education institutes. The objective is to prepare future and responsible voters for greater electoral participation. This initiative aims to make young citizens fully conversant with the electoral process, encouraging them to register as voters and participants in elections in an informed and ethical manner for the world’s largest democracy.
Role and Responsibility: The Electoral Literacy Cell at Haldia Government College actively engages students, equipping them with knowledge about the electoral process and encouraging responsible participation in our democratic system through
Formation: The ELC at this college has been functional since 2019. In the previous academic year (2022–2033), the ELC was constituted with the following office bearers: 1. Monami Das Roy, Associate Professor, ELC Coordinator 2. Nizamuddin Ahmed, Assistant Professor, ELC Additional Coordinator 3. Ajmira Khatun, Student, Student Representative 4. Animesh Maity Student, Student Representative 5. Trisha Maity, student representative.
